I’ve been away because I have been ill. I have a bad heart and sometimes I go right into the tank and as a result have to shirk my duties. I have had a few different questions sent to me and I have tried to answer things as they came up. Haven’t always been successful.
Concert promoting these days is a far cry from the olden days as I like to call them. Some people have taken me to task for this way of thinking but, I still believe that to be true. The reason is that the society and business culture we live in is a lifetime removed from the 60’s and 70’s.
Regardless of what you may believe, these times we live in now are very much different than the days of yore. When I was involved in working with bands and involved in Radio, a dispute was more likely to be settled by a punch in the nose and some bruised egos finally working things out.
Now a days it’s not unheard of for one member of a group shooting another member of a group. I know that’s a bit of a stretch, but it does happen. My point is that the music business has changed in many ways. So your experience will hinge on what type of music you are involved with and the size of venue you choose to work with.
I guess what I’m really trying to say in a very poor way, is that the concert business is more sophisticated than it was years ago. While the basics are the same, the added nuiances are quite varied and require a much sharper mind and more focused approach. That may or may not be of help, but it is the way things are these days.
On top of that, the financial risks are more severe. Other risks are more intense also. The safety of all concerned is of paramount importance……..and that is the direct result of the society we reside in and it’s propensity for violence to surface.
Due to these reasons I believe that having a copy of the book featured on this site is a good investment. It’s not much money in the grand scheme of things, but the information included inside could be very valuable to you in many ways.
